Overview:
The Fra Angelico Pendant depicts an angel in prayer with arms crossed over their chest, surrounded by a halo of emeralds.
Fra Angelico was an Italian painter who lived, for most of his life, within a Florentine monastery. There, using what has been described as a “rare and unusual talent” he painted the corridors and walls of the monk’s rooms with frescos that depict divine religious scenes.
On the walls of the San Marco convent he created The Annunciation. It shows an example of one of the earlier postures for prayer, which art historians believe is a symbol for the embrace of spiritual contemplation in one’s soul.
