This Catholic Medallion is a remembrance of a visit to the city of Pompei, etched on the one side with a picture of the Holy Mother and child, and on the other with the words Ricordo di Pompei.

The Ancient City of Pompei lies at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, and its people worshipped the God Vulcan, from whose name the word volcano is derived. Entering this city on a hot summer’s day the smell of conifer trees is in the air, and lazy dogs lounge about the ruins, trying to escape the sun. This is the final resting place of an entire city’s inhabitants, whose houses, elaborate mosaics, and bronze statues were preserved in the ash of their nearby volcano’s eruption. The Pompei Pendant is a testament to the enduring nature of culture and story through time.
